Course overview
This three-day requalification course takes experienced FREC 3 holders back through the full skill set of the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF), then reassesses you against the current Qualsafe standard. The qualification meets the competencies of the PHEM skills framework at descriptor level D and is endorsed by the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Most of your time is spent practising rather than listening. You work through incident assessment, the primary and secondary survey, airway and breathing management, emergency oxygen, and adult, child and infant resuscitation with an AED. Trauma sessions cover catastrophic bleeding, chest, head and spinal injuries, shock, burns and musculoskeletal injuries. Medical scenarios revisit presentations such as chest pain, stroke, seizures, anaphylaxis and poisoning.
Throughout the course, your instructor watches how you assess, treat, reassess and hand over, and helps you correct any habits that have crept in since you last qualified. Alongside this ongoing observation, you complete formal practical, scenario-based and theory assessments.
