Hands-on clinical skills training in South Manchester

PLAB Guide Training Centre runs clinical skills courses in Manchester for healthcare staff who need to learn, refresh or build confidence in core practical procedures. Courses take place at our centre on Moseley Road in Levenshulme, in small groups where you spend most of the day practising rather than watching.

Blood taking and vascular access courses

• Phlebotomy covers taking blood samples safely and correctly, from patient identification and consent through to sample handling.
• Venepuncture focuses on the technique of accessing a vein to draw blood, for staff adding this skill to their existing role.
• IV cannulation teaches you to insert and secure a peripheral cannula for intravenous access, with attention to infection prevention and aftercare.

These courses suit healthcare assistants, nurses, doctors, medical and nursing students, and staff moving into roles where these skills are expected. They are also useful if you are returning to practice and want supervised practice before performing procedures on patients.
