MIMMS course in Manchester: major incident training for healthcare professionals
Our MIMMS course in Manchester teaches doctors, nurses and paramedics how to organise the medical response when a major incident overwhelms normal resources. It is the official Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG) Major Incident Medical Management and Support (MIMMS) 4th Edition course, run at our centre in Levenshulme, Greater Manchester.
You complete the ALSG online learning first, then spend two days with us on command, safety, communication, assessment, triage, treatment and transport, through workshops, table-top exercises and practical exercises.
How the MIMMS course runs
Before the course you complete the ALSG MIMMS online learning, which has seven parts: introduction, preparation, planning, the incident, special circumstances, post-incident actions and a knowledge check. Allow enough time to finish it before day one.
The two face-to-face days run from 9am to 5pm. They mix lectures on command, control and coordination and on assessment and triage, workshops on command and control, safety and communication, triage exercises, and table-top and practical exercises in which the incident information changes as you go. Refreshments and a sandwich lunch are provided on both days.
Assessment and certification
Assessment follows ALSG standards. Candidates who meet them receive ALSG MIMMS certification, valid for four years. Attendance alone does not guarantee certification.
MIMMS or HMIMMS?
MIMMS focuses on the medical response at the scene of an incident. Hospital MIMMS (HMIMMS) covers the response inside the hospital. If you work in pre-hospital care or may respond at the scene, MIMMS is the better fit.
Training in Manchester
The course runs at PLAB Guide Training Centre, 308 Moseley Road, Levenshulme, Manchester M19 2LH. There is a free car park at the back for five or six cars and free on-street parking nearby, first come, first served.

Course overview
MIMMS gives you a structured approach to managing the medical response at the scene of a major incident: an event where the number, type or severity of casualties creates exceptional demands on the emergency response and the healthcare system.
The course is built around the CSCATTT approach: Command and control, Safety, Communication, Assessment, Triage, Treatment and Transport. ALSG describes MIMMS as an international standard in major incident medical management, used in both civilian and military practice. The 4th Edition also covers special circumstances such as hazardous-material incidents, natural disasters, mass gatherings, multiple burn casualties and incidents involving many children.
