Renew your ATLS® Provider status in Manchester

Your ATLS® Provider status lasts four years. When renewal comes round, our ATLS reverification course in Manchester lets you renew it in one focused day instead of repeating the full two-day Provider course. It is the official Royal College of Surgeons of England programme, delivered at PLAB Guide Training Centre in Levenshulme.

The day is designed for clinicians who still manage severely injured patients and know the ATLS® approach well. You complete the RCS England e-learning beforehand, then spend the day on trauma scenarios, embedded skills and formal assessment.

You can reverify while your status is current or up to six months after it expires. Eligibility checks take time, so pick a date below that sits comfortably inside your window.

Why reverify with PLAB Guide in Manchester

Reverification assumes you already know ATLS®, so the day needs to be efficient and well organised. As an RCS England approved regional centre, we deliver the official programme with experienced ATLS® faculty, modern simulation equipment and realistic, interactive trauma scenarios.

  • Your deadline comes first. We ask for the latest date you can attend, so we can prioritise candidates closest to the end of their window.
  • Eligibility checked early. You upload your Provider certificate when you book, so verification starts straight away.
  • Flexible payment. Pay yourself, ask your employer to pay, or secure your place with a deposit and pay the balance later, interest-free.
  • Easy to reach. The centre has free dedicated parking, free on-road parking nearby and good public transport links.

Choosing a date takes you straight to booking with that date selected.

Course overview

ATLS® Reverification revisits the core of the ATLS® approach for providers who already use it in practice. It does not reteach the Provider course. Instead, it refreshes and reassesses your ability to manage a seriously injured patient safely and systematically.

Before the course

You complete mandatory e-learning set by RCS England. It must be finished in full by the RCS England deadline before you can attend the face-to-face day.

On the day

One full day combines interactive discussions, demonstrations, clinical trauma scenarios with embedded practical skills, and formal assessment. The scenarios follow the xABCDE sequence. They run from catastrophic haemorrhage through airway, breathing, circulation, disability and exposure, with continuous reassessment, a secondary survey and planning for transfer and definitive care.

Throughout the day the emphasis is on treating the greatest threat to life first. You also lead or work in a trauma team using standardised trauma language: clear prioritisation, delegation, closed-loop communication and concise handover.

Who this course is for

This course is for experienced clinicians who already hold ATLS® Provider status and still manage severely injured patients regularly. It gives you a structured way to check your trauma practice against the current 11th Edition and renew your status in a single day.

The day assumes a high degree of familiarity with trauma assessment and resuscitation. For that reason, RCS England advises that clinicians who do not regularly manage severely injured patients reverify by taking the full two-day ATLS® Provider course instead.

Who should attend

  • Consultants, registrars, middle-grade doctors and SHOs who hold ATLS® Provider status
  • Providers whose status is current, or expired no more than six months ago
  • Providers who completed their last ATLS® course within the last four and a half years
  • Clinicians who regularly manage severely injured patients

Entry requirements

To book, you will need:

  • Evidence of your current or recent ATLS® Provider status (you upload your certificate when booking)
  • Your RCS England unique ID or contact number. Register with RCS England if you do not have one.
  • Your professional body registration number, for example GMC or GDC

Provider status gained on a course outside the UK must be verified through the American College of Surgeons. This can take longer, so book early.

Before the course day you must complete the mandatory RCS England e-learning in full by the stated deadline and review current ATLS® principles. Candidates who book close to the course date remain responsible for meeting these requirements in time.

What you will learn

  • Apply the ATLS® approach to the immediate management of a severely injured patient
  • Recognise and treat life-threatening injuries in order of priority
  • Use the xABCDE framework to assess and reassess trauma patients systematically
  • Integrate practical skills with current ATLS® theory during trauma scenarios
  • Communicate with the trauma team using standardised trauma language
  • Escalate care and plan transfer to definitive care appropriately
  • Demonstrate up-to-date ATLS® knowledge to renew your Provider status

Frequently asked questions

How long is ATLS Provider status valid, and when can I reverify?
ATLS Provider status is valid for four years. You can take the one-day Reverification course at any point while your status is current, or up to six months after it expires. Booking well inside that window gives time for certificate checks and the mandatory e-learning.
My ATLS status expired more than six months ago. Can I still reverify?
Normally not. Once more than six months have passed since your Provider status expired, RCS England requires you to repeat the full two-day ATLS Provider course rather than the one-day Reverification. Our ATLS Provider course in Manchester is the right route in that case.
Should I choose ATLS Reverification or the full two-day Provider course?
Choose Reverification if you hold current or recently expired Provider status and regularly manage severely injured patients. RCS England advises the full two-day course if you have never done ATLS, your status expired over six months ago, or you no longer manage major trauma regularly.
I gained ATLS Provider status outside the UK. Can I book?
Yes, but your Provider status must be verified through the American College of Surgeons before your booking can be confirmed. This usually takes longer than a UK check, so upload your certificate and book as early as possible within your reverification window.
What do I need to provide when booking ATLS Reverification?
You upload your ATLS Provider certificate and give your RCS England unique ID or contact number, your professional body registration number, and the date your Provider status expires. If you do not have an RCS England ID, register on the RCS England website before booking.
Is there pre-course work for ATLS Reverification?
Yes. You must complete the mandatory RCS England e-learning in full by the stated deadline before the face-to-face day. The course assumes recent trauma experience, so it also helps to review current ATLS principles and prepare for the practical and assessment components.
Can I pay a deposit and pay the rest later?
Yes. You can secure your place with a deposit and pay the balance before an agreed date, with no interest or charges added. You attend either way. The deposit amount, balance date and full terms are shown on the booking form. Your employer can also pay on your behalf.
What happens if the course is rescheduled close to my deadline?
We make every effort to run each course as planned, but a course may occasionally be cancelled or rescheduled for unavoidable reasons. To protect yourself, book a date that leaves a margin before your window closes, and tell us the latest date you can attend so we can prioritise you.
Can I be identified for ATLS Instructor Potential on Reverification?
Yes. RCS England allows Instructor Potential to be awarded after either the Provider or the Reverification course. It depends on faculty assessment of your performance and on meeting the instructor eligibility requirements, so it cannot be guaranteed.
Is there parking at the Manchester training centre?
Yes. PLAB Guide Training Centre on Moseley Road in Levenshulme has free dedicated parking, and there is free on-road parking nearby. The centre is also easy to reach by public transport from central and south Manchester.
