If you are looking for an ATLS course in Manchester, the first question is which one you need. PLAB Guide Training Centre in Levenshulme hosts both the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS England) Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Provider course, 11th edition, and the one-day ATLS Reverification course.
The right choice depends on whether you already hold ATLS Provider status, and when it expires.
The short answer
- Never done ATLS? Book the full ATLS Provider course.
- Status current, or expired within the last six months? You can book ATLS Reverification.
- Expired more than six months ago? You need the full ATLS Provider course again.

What the full ATLS course covers
The ATLS Provider course teaches a structured, systematic approach to the first hour of trauma care. Topics include:
- initial assessment using the xABCDE approach
- airway management and cervical spine protection
- thoracic trauma
- haemorrhage and shock
- head and neurological trauma
- musculoskeletal injury and special circumstances
- teamwork, transfer and definitive care
You are assessed on your initial assessment and management of a simulated trauma patient. There is no automatic resit. A candidate who does not reach the standard may need to take another Provider course.
See the ATLS Provider course in Manchester for full details.
How reverification works
Reverification renews your ATLS Provider status for another four years in a single day at the centre. Before you attend, you must complete the RCS England e-learning in full by the RCS England deadline. On the day, faculty assess your trauma management in clinical scenarios against the current RCS England requirements. Booking and attending does not guarantee a pass.
See the ATLS Reverification course in Manchester for full details.
What you need when you book
- your RCS England unique ID or contact number
- your GMC or GDC registration number
- for the full course: your place of work and role
- for reverification: a copy of your ATLS Provider certificate and its expiry date
Planning ahead
ATLS dates often fill early, so book well before your status expires. If your status lapses by more than six months, you will need the full two-day course rather than the one-day reverification.
