Advanced Phlebotomy and Cannulation (2 Days)

In Campus

Course Overview

Advanced Phlebotomy and Cannulation: two-day course in Manchester

Day 1 (Tuesday) covers venepuncture and cannulation from the start. Day 2 (Wednesday) adds winged needles and syringe collection, blood cultures, difficult veins, more cannulation practice, optional supervised practice and an observed assessment.

Booking options

  • 2-day course (Tuesday and Wednesday), 12 CPD hours
  • Day 2 only (Wednesday), 6 CPD hours: for people who have done our 1-day venepuncture and cannulation course in the last 2 years, or who already take blood and cannulate at work
  • 3-day bundle: this course plus Urinary Catheterisation on the Thursday, 18 CPD hours. We add you to the Thursday course.

Times

09:00 to 17:00 each day, with a sandwich lunch and refreshments.

Optional supervised practice

On day 2 you can practise taking blood from a fellow learner who has volunteered, under direct supervision by a trainer. Taking part is entirely your choice and does not affect your certificate. Volunteers sign a consent form and complete a short health check. Cannulation practice stays on training arms.

What you receive

Certificate of attendance with CPD hours and a workplace competency record for your employer to complete. Your employer signs you off on patients before you practise on your own. We recommend a refresher every 2 years.

Venue: Second Floor, 308 Moseley Road, Levenshulme, Manchester M19 2LH.

Required Candidate Information
Event Terms & Conditions

Advanced Phlebotomy and Cannulation – Terms and Conditions

  1. Advance Booking
Candidates should book in advance to allow time for enrolment, joining instructions and any pre-course preparation.

  2. Accurate Candidate Details
Candidates must give their correct full name, date of birth, email address, telephone number and any information needed for qualification registration. Certificates are issued using these details, so please check them carefully.

  3. Identification
Candidates may be asked to show valid photographic identification on the day. The name must match the booking.

  4. Attendance and Punctuality
Full attendance is required. Candidates who arrive more than 15 minutes late, or who miss any part of the course, may not be able to continue or be assessed and may need to rebook at their own cost.

  5. Eligibility
The 2-day course is for healthcare professionals, healthcare support staff and students who need phlebotomy or cannulation skills in their role. Day 2 only is for candidates who have completed our 1-day Venepuncture and Cannulation course in the last 2 years, or who already take blood and cannulate in their job. By booking Day 2 only, you confirm that you meet this requirement. We may ask for evidence. If you do not meet it, we may move you to the full 2-day course (you pay the difference) or transfer you to another date.

  6. Scope of Practice
The course develops theory and practical skills on training arms, with optional supervised practice as described below. It does not by itself qualify or authorise a candidate to perform venepuncture or cannulation on patients. Candidates must follow their employer's policies and complete any required supervised practice and competency sign-off in the workplace.

  7. Practical Sessions
Cannulation practice takes place on training arms only. On day 2, candidates may choose to take part in supervised venepuncture practice with another candidate who has volunteered. Taking part, as a volunteer or as the person taking blood, is entirely voluntary and does not affect certification. Volunteers must sign a consent form and complete a short health questionnaire on the day. The trainer may decline any volunteer or stop any attempt on safety grounds, and a volunteer may withdraw at any time. Every attempt is directly supervised by a trainer. Sharps, spillage and needlestick procedures are explained at the start of the session.

  8. Certification
Candidates who complete the days they booked, including the observed assessment on day 2, receive a certificate of attendance with CPD hours (12 for the 2-day course, 6 for Day 2 only) and a workplace competency record for their employer to complete. We recommend a refresher every 2 years.

  9. 3-Day Bundle
The 3-day bundle includes this course (Tuesday and Wednesday) and our Urinary Catheterisation course on the Thursday of the same week. We reserve your Thursday place when we confirm your booking. The cancellation, transfer and refund terms below apply to the bundle as a whole, counted from its first day, and a transfer moves all three days together.

  10. Transfers, Cancellations and Refunds
All cancellation and transfer requests must be made in writing to admin@plabguide.co.uk. The notice period is counted from the day we receive your request to the first day of the course.

    • 30 days or more before the course: full refund, less any awarding-body registration, certificate or course-material costs already incurred on your behalf.
    • 14 to 29 days before the course: 50% refund.
    • Less than 14 days before the course, or non-attendance: no refund.
    • Transfers: one transfer to another date of the same course is free if requested at least 14 days before the course. Transfers requested 3 to 13 days before the course incur a £30 administration fee and are subject to availability. Transfers cannot be made in the final 72 hours; this is treated as a cancellation.
    • Substitutions: you may send another person in your place at no charge if you tell us at least 48 hours before the course and they meet the entry requirements.
    • Discounted bookings: where a promotional code or group discount has been applied, refunds are calculated on the amount actually paid.
    • Approved refunds are paid to the original payment method within 14 working days.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights. If you booked online as a consumer more than 14 days before the course, you may cancel within 14 days of booking for a full refund; if you ask us to provide the course (or any pre-course learning) within that 14-day period, you agree that this right ends once the service has been fully provided and that a proportionate charge may apply.

  11. Health, Access and Reasonable Adjustments
Courses include practical work. Please tell us before the course about any medical condition, injury, pregnancy or access need that may affect your participation so that we can discuss reasonable adjustments. We may ask a candidate not to take part in an activity if we believe it is unsafe.

  12. Professional Conduct
Candidates must behave respectfully towards instructors, staff and other learners. We may remove a candidate whose behaviour is unsafe, abusive or disruptive, without refund.

  13. Fees and VAT
Course fees are shown on the booking page. VAT at the current rate is charged where applicable and is shown at checkout. Payment must be made in full at the time of booking unless an invoice has been agreed in advance; invoiced bookings must be paid within 14 days of the invoice date and before the course starts.

  14. Group and On-site Bookings
Group and on-site courses are confirmed by written quotation. Unless the quotation says otherwise, on-site courses cancelled or postponed by the client 14 to 29 days before the date are charged at 50%, and those cancelled less than 14 days before are charged in full.

  15. Course Changes and Cancellation by Us
PLAB Guide Training Centre may make reasonable changes to instructors, timetables or venue. If we have to cancel or postpone a course, we will offer you a free transfer to another date or a full refund. We are not responsible for travel, accommodation or other costs you have incurred.

  16. Complaints and Appeals
Please raise any concern with us at admin@plabguide.co.uk. Assessment appeals follow the awarding body's appeals procedure, which we will provide on request.

  17. Data Protection
We process your personal data in line with our privacy policy, including sharing the details needed for registration and certification with the relevant awarding or accrediting body.

  18. Acceptance of Terms
By completing the booking, the candidate (or the person booking on their behalf) confirms they have read, understood and accepted these terms and conditions.
