Course description

The RCUK-endorsed EPALS Recertification Course is designed for healthcare professionals who already hold an EPALS Provider certificate and need to renew their qualification. This intensive 1-day programme refreshes and reinforces the advanced paediatric life support skills required to recognise and manage the deteriorating or critically ill child, including those in actual or impending cardiac arrest.

The course is suitable for clinicians who regularly care for paediatric patients or take part in paediatric resuscitation as part of their clinical role. This includes doctors, nurses, paramedics and advanced practitioners working in emergency departments, paediatrics, theatres, PICU and pre-hospital / retrieval services.

What this course covers

  • Structured assessment of the unwell child using the ABCDE approach.
  • Delivery of standardised paediatric CPR in accordance with current RCUK guidelines.
  • Recognition and early management of the critically ill child and those in cardiac arrest.
  • Safe use of the paediatric resuscitation team, including non-technical skills such as leadership, communication and teamwork.

Eligibility for EPALS Recertification

EPALS recertification courses can only be taken by healthcare professionals who:

Course description

The RCUK-endorsed EPALS Recertification Course is designed for healthcare professionals who already hold an EPALS Provider certificate and need to renew their qualification. This intensive 1-day programme refreshes and reinforces the advanced paediatric life support skills required to recognise and manage the deteriorating or critically ill child, including those in actual or impending cardiac arrest.

The course is suitable for clinicians who regularly care for paediatric patients or take part in paediatric resuscitation as part of their clinical role. This includes doctors, nurses, paramedics and advanced practitioners working in emergency departments, paediatrics, theatres, PICU and pre-hospital / retrieval services.

What this course covers

  • Structured assessment of the unwell child using the ABCDE approach.
  • Delivery of standardised paediatric CPR in accordance with current RCUK guidelines.
  • Recognition and early management of the critically ill child and those in cardiac arrest.
  • Safe use of the paediatric resuscitation team, including non-technical skills such as leadership, communication and teamwork.
  • Scenario-based simulations with feedback to consolidate clinical decision-making and team performance.

Eligibility for EPALS Recertification

EPALS recertification courses can only be taken by healthcare professionals who:

  • Hold a current Resuscitation Council UK EPALS Provider certificate, or
  • Whose EPALS certificate has expired within the last 12 months.

If it has been more than 12 months since the original certificate expired, candidates are required to attend the full 2-day EPALS Provider Course instead of the 1-day recertification.

Accreditation

This EPALS qualification is recognised by the Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) and is also recognised by the European Resuscitation Council and the Australian Resuscitation Council, giving you the freedom to use your paediatric life support skills in a wide range of healthcare settings.

  • Accepted for NHS portfolios, CPD, revalidation, and professional registration
